I've been hacked or my account has been hijacked. What should I do?

If you believe someone besides yourself has accessed your Scratch account, please change your password immediately. A strong password is unique and lengthy. You can change your password in Account Settings.

Please do not share your password! If a Scratch Project asks for your password, do not enter it. Only enter your password when logging in to Scratch.

Remember to logout of your account when you are done using Scratch as well.

If you no longer have access to your account, please use Contact Us to  provide as much of the following information as you can, so we can verify that you are the owner of the account and try to help you regain access:

• Your username

• The birth month & year associated with the account

• Any project titles/ descriptions for projects that are unshared or in the trash folder

• The email address you expect to be associated with the account

If you have any idea how someone else gained access to your account, please let us know. Some strategies that people use to access accounts (not specifically on Scratch, but in general), include:

• Creating a game, website, or other interface that requests the username & password for another site
• Sending an email that looks like it came from a legitimate site, and asking the user to reset their password or share their password

Please be cautious in order to avoid these exploits, but you don’t need to be scared!  Knowing what to look out for and never to share your password are good steps you can take to help keep your accounts safe.
